Run the Poblenou!

Share

All of you know the Agbar Tower designed by the architect Norman Foster. Most also know that it is located in the Poblenou neighborhood. But only a few walked through this neighborhood with a long working class tradition in Barcelona. Come on and let’s run the Poblenou!

This route begins at the next to Agbar Tower, a symbol of the modernization of the neighborhood, especially with the introduction of technological industries as a result of the momentum of the city council with the 22@ project. Go down Ciutat de Granada Street you’ll see the ancient Can Canela Factory, today’s School of Masters and Graduate School of the University of Barcelona. Turning down Tànger Street, you can see the spectacular building of Indra Company, and just in front of it, the headquarters of the Vila Casas Foundation, dedicated to the promotion of Catalan contemporary art. The Foundation also has inside the Can Framis Museum, an old woolen factory in the late XVIII century.

In front of it, the MediaTic, an intelligent building with panels that regulates the entrance of light. A top-level technology center. When left behind, we can see one of the least known city skylines, and we can see a mix of the working-class neighborhood and new and modern buildings.

After a short run, we get the Rambla of Poblenou, the backbone of the neighborhood. We ran down the boulevard and arrive at the Casino de l’Aliança (Casino of the Alliance), founded in 1928, an associationist and cultural center of the district, the Casino has always been an institution closely linked to the working class culture of the neighborhood. Turn left until you reach Can Saladrigas, an ancient factory (now cultural center of the district), where we see one of the many chimneys that still exist in the neighborhood.

From here, climb the Passeig Taulat that will lead us directly to the Forum area, full of high buildings, luxury hotels, and the beginning of Avinguda Diagonal; from here we come back to our starting point. During the return, we enjoyed a nice running in the middle of the street (except the initial section), and always with an eye set in the distant Torre Agbar, which gradually will be approaching us till this running route ends!
